Building History

Getting Started

Building History is the first stage for anyone just getting started with research after gaining mileage. In an ideal situation, every business should have a record keeping culture for their activities and numbers. However, this is often not regarded by many entrepreneurs.

Getting Started in business is not just about registration. Preparation and regular documentation are necessary for every stage. When a business has already started with operations, records must be kept. Otherwise, the entrepreneurs involved should intentionally start searching for records.

History cannot be changed but narratives can be derived from past events. It's possible to find transaction details, number of people involved in projects, statistics on items used and more to be tracked over time. Intentional entrepreneurs can gather enough data for writing their stories as desired.

Documenting your journey

To document your journey, you can prepare brief summaries of your progress monthly with titles. One or two paragraphs would be sufficient but you can use up to five paragraphs to describe activities each month. With monthly goals, you can measure growth better.

Let's say your business has a goal to register 100 students for Product Design, everything else you do would become relevant information towards documenting this goal. The title may be Trained 100 Students on Product Design if you succeeded. Otherwise, you may use something like Trained over 50 Students on Product Design. If this is a monthly course and the previous month had 20 students, you can say Achieved 50% Growth in Product Design Training. As simple as this looks, over time, it would forge future wins for your business.

Just in case you didn't get a good number of paying students, you can setup your enrolment process to allow students provide their information first before making payments. That way, let's say you record 200 or more registrations despite receiving probably only 20 payments. Your progress report can then be titled Gained over 200 Enrollees for Product Design. This does not speak of payments but it's progressive because you have numbers to work with and the hope to get paid sooner or later.

If you are not yet documenting your journey, it's not too late. Start tracing your steps from the beginning of your journey.

That's the best way to start.
